Strategic Robotic Systems Inc (2021)

Strategic Robotic Systems Inc (2021)

In 2021, Nortek and Strategic Robotics Systems merged to form General Oceans, creating new opportunities by combining the strengths and capabilities of both companies. Being part of a larger group enabled both brands to leverage shared resources, enhance collaboration, and collectively pursue growth opportunities. The group quickly grew with the addition of Reach Robotics in early 2022.

Reach Robotics (2022)

Reach Robotics (2022)

Following the formation of General Oceans in 2021, Sydney-based Reach Robotics, previously Blueprint Lab, became part of General Oceans through a merger in January 2022. Reach Robotics develops advanced, electric underwater intervention systems for Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and brought to the group an excellent suite of manipulator technology. Over the years, Reach Robotics has needed support from the General Oceans team in shaping strategy, installing new leadership and driving profitability but is doing well and an important part of the Group.

Tritech (2022)

Tritech (2022)

In 2022, General Oceans made its first true acquisition of multibeam imaging sonar designer and manufacturer Tritech International Ltd. Based in the UK with an office in Aberdeen and a large manufacturing base in Ulverston, Tritech is best known for the Gemini 720is imaging sonar which has been utilised within the energy sector for many years and is the industry standard for deep rated navigational and inspection sonar. The Tritech acquisition saw the company change hands from the large US based defense group Moog Inc. to General Oceans, in a move that brought Tritech closer to the industry, with sister companies working in the same field and often with the same customers. Following the acquisition, General Oceans helped with both the restructuring and recruitment of key leadership positions, as well as improve product delivery and project management within the business. The acquisition has been a great success with Tritech seeing significant growth in both revenue and profit since joining General Oceans.

Klein Marine Systems (2023)

Klein Marine Systems (2023)

In 2023, General Oceans acquired legendary side scan sonar producer Klein Marine Systems, based in Salem, NH. Klein has an excellent reputation in the market and is known for producing the best side scan sonars in the world. General Oceans acquired Klein from the US company Mind Inc., along with a large manufacturing facility in Salem. Klein has been established for over 50 years and brings with it a substantial legacy and excellent brand recognition. The Klein acquisition presented some challenges as it quickly became apparent that the business was in distress. The team at General Oceans completed a re-structuring of the existing team which included reducing head count and narrowing the product portfolio which held a number of legacy products that were difficult to support. Now, with a reduced product portfolio, streamlined workforce and new premises, Klein’s outlook has significantly improved and the General Oceans team continue to support Klein to help them to achieve their full potential.

RS Aqua (2024)

RS Aqua (2024)

UK-based underwater technology specialists RS Aqua became the latest acquisition by General Oceans when they joined the group in late 2024 in a move that has strengthened the position of both companies. RS Aqua has been an important acquisition for General Oceans with a shared commitment to growth, technology and innovation. The acquisition has also been beneficial for RS Aqua, enabling them to leverage the scale, global expertise, and collaborative environment within General Oceans. As part of a larger international group, RS Aqua has gained access to valuable shared resources, ideas, and technical insights, supporting their growth ambitions for 2026 and beyond. United by a commitment to growth, innovation, and exploration, RS Aqua and General Oceans look forward to an exciting future together.
