Sessions/Demos: Classroom Session - MARLIN: Revolutionising ocean monitoring with automated marine mammal & vessel classification

RS Aqua’s Project MARLIN was launched in 2023 with the aim of developing a new real-time system to monitor the underwater acoustic environment using machine learning. Since then multiple recording systems have been deployed along the UK coastline and, using newly developed technology, we are now able to detect marine mammals and correlate underwater noise with vessel traffic on the water.
